Some formal powers of the legislature would be the power to declare war or ratify treaties with foreign COUNTIES while an informal power would be that they can try to use the NECESSARY and proper clause as justification

They restrict each others powers for example the congress will act as a court if anyone from the executive and judiciary is put up for impeachment. they can also amend a bill that the judiciary viewed as unconstitutional and they also have oversight to make sure that the agencies in the bureaucracy are doing their jobs in a legal fashion

They have to have to have bills signed by the president so it becomes a law but he can veto it but if NECESSARY then the veto can be OVER RIGHTED. The JUDICIARY stops congress from passing bills that are considered UNCONSTITUTIONAL and force them to make amendments. the bureaucracy has to be check on so their agencies are not running a muck.

Both houses of congress take part in lawmaking and represent the people. They are also the oversight of COMMITTEES and help constituents and educate the public. The senate specifically performs actions like RATIFYING treaties, being the court in impeachments and confirm presidential appointments. the house creates revenue bills and starts the impeachment process

They may gain more power to make decisions if they react fast enough and they have a good outcome out of their choices and ideas but there power can also be RESTRICTED just as easily.

The political parties make up the congress and the party with the majority in it has more power and influence in congressional decisions this means that they can chose to implement what they want and not have as hard of a time getting it passed as long as their party is the majority.

Congress acts as an oversight to make sure the COMMITTEES are doing their job and not doing any illegal act like EMBEZZLEMENT and they are also influenced by intresest groups since they can affect the public's view about them and cause them to vote for someone else in the next election

The media helps the congress get their word out to the CITIZENS and they can also be their the help spread the idea of congress members and get them heard. They are also able to expose them for any political scandal they may COMMIT and cause them to not be reelected next term.
